Since the Portuguese government and a community of remote workers launched the Digital Nomad Village in Ponta do Sol in 2020, Madeira has consolidated as one of Europe's flagship remote-work destinations. Funchal in particular has built out the infrastructure — fibre internet, multiple coworking spaces, English-speaking healthcare and services, and a year-round community of locals, expats, and nomads running 800+ events per year via Madeira Friends.
